1. What was built in
- Everything is reachable by keyboard. Tab moves through the page in the order it is written, the focus outline is a solid line rather than a faint glow, and nothing traps focus.
- Every form field has a real label, joined to its field, not a placeholder pretending to be one. Placeholders are used for examples only and never carry the meaning of a field.
- Errors are announced. When a form refuses, the message appears in a live region so a screen reader reads it, the offending field is outlined, and focus moves to it.
- Headings run in order, one h1 per page and no levels skipped, so a screen reader's outline matches what you see.
- Tables are real tables with header cells, so a screen reader can say which column a number belongs to. The rate tables scroll sideways inside their own box rather than pushing the page.
- Text reflows. The layout is fluid, nothing is fixed to a pixel width, and enlarging text to 200 percent does not cut anything off.
- Color is never the only signal. A refused field is outlined and described in words, not just turned red.
- Contrast on body text, headings and buttons is above the 4.5 to 1 ratio.
2. What is deliberately absent
- No motion of any kind, no parallax, no animated counters, no carousel.
- No pop up, no modal on load, no interstitial, no thing that covers the page uninvited. The storage strip at the bottom is the only overlay and one click removes it for good.
- No autoplay audio or video, because there is neither.
- No third party widget, no chat bubble, no embedded map. Nothing loads from another host.
- No infinite scroll and no content that appears only after scrolling.
- No time limit anywhere, on any form.
3. Known limits, stated rather than hidden
Three honest ones.
- The date and time fields use your browser's own controls. They are the most reliable option available, but their appearance and their keyboard behavior belong to the browser rather than to this site. If yours is awkward, type the date instead or telephone.
- The rate tables are wide. On a narrow screen they scroll sideways inside their own frame. That is better than shrinking the type, but it is still a sideways scroll and some people find it awkward.
- This site has not been audited by anybody but its own builder. It is written to WCAG 2.2 at level AA as understood by the person who wrote it, which is not the same thing as a certificate, and this page will not pretend otherwise.
4. The ride itself
Accessibility of this website and accessibility of a vehicle are different subjects and get confused often, so both are answered here.
A folding wheelchair, a walker or a rollator travels in the trunk of an ordinary vehicle at no addition, and a service animal travels with you. Say either on the request so the right size is asked for. What this desk cannot arrange is a lift equipped van, securement for an occupied chair, or any attendant, and the services page says why.
5. Reporting something
If any part of this site does not work for you, tell us and it gets fixed rather than logged.
- Telephone +1 (443) 612-4708 during desk hours and say what page and what happened.
- Or write to waybill@thistlecrossing.com with the page address, the browser and the assistive technology you use.
- You will get an answer within five working days, and a plain answer about whether it can be fixed quickly or not at all.
If the site is the barrier, the telephone is not. Every booking on this site can be made entirely by voice, and no part of the service requires using this website.
