About

Who Runs This Desk, Where the Name Came From, and How It Is Paid

A booking desk in Canton with one telephone number and a short list of operators it trusts. This page says who runs it, how it makes money, and where the name came from, because a company that will not say those things plainly is not worth booking through.

Thistle Crossing books ground transfers and runs none of them. No airline, no airport authority, no government body, no hotel group and no carrier owns this desk, pays it or stands behind it. The ride itself is worked by a local operator who holds their own permits, and their name is on the vehicle rather than ours.

01Trade

What this is

Thistle Crossing is a booking desk for ground transfers between addresses in the Baltimore region and BWI Thurgood Marshall. Somebody sends a request or telephones, a person reads it, an operator is found for the date and the hour, and a rate comes back.

What it is not, and this matters: it is not a carrier. No vehicle on any of these rides belongs to this company. No driver is on its payroll. The operators hold their own passenger permits and their own insurance, and their name is on the vehicle rather than ours. When you agree to a booking you are agreeing to a ride worked by them and arranged by us.

That distinction is the whole legal shape of the business and it is printed on every page of this site rather than buried here.

02People

Who is behind it

Nadia Whitaker founded the desk in June 14, 2021 and still takes most of what comes in on the telephone. The work before that was dispatching for other people, which is where the opinions on the crossings page come from: several years of telling passengers what time to be ready and then finding out whether it was right.

The desk is deliberately small. There is no call center, no phone tree and no ticket number. If you telephone during hours you are speaking to somebody who can actually answer, and if the line is busy it rings back. Growth past the point where that stops being true is not the plan.

03Money

How the money works

The desk is paid a booking fee by the operator on rides it places. You pay the operator for the ride on their terms, and you pay this desk nothing at any point. There is no card field anywhere on this site and no payment is taken here.

That arrangement has one consequence worth knowing about, so it is printed rather than hidden: the desk earns nothing when it tells you the airport's own rail link or a shared van is the better answer for your trip, and it does that regularly anyway. It is a small enough business that a passenger who trusts it is worth more than a ride that should not have been booked.

04Name

The name, plainly

There is no place called Thistle Crossing. It is not a neighborhood, not a road, not a station and not a village. The name was chosen for what the second word means in a city with water through the middle of it, and the first word simply sounded right beside it.

Anyone who searches the region for the first word will find a nineteenth century mill site on the river, which is a real piece of local history and has nothing to do with this company. We do not trade on it, we do not picture it, and we are not connected with any business that carries a similar name. The logo is two lines crossed by a third: a crossing, not a plant.

One field is missing from that table on purpose: the state entity number. Maryland hands those out in sequence, which means every believable number already identifies some other business, and publishing somebody else's identifier is a worse outcome than publishing nothing. What an imprint is for is naming the registrar, the date, the agent and the tax identifier, and all four are above.

06Claims

Every claim this desk makes, and every one it does not

Advertising for a business like this leans on a short list of standard promises. Most of them are switched off here, and the table says which and why in one line each. A promise with nothing behind it is worth less than an honest blank.

The nine standard promises, one row each
The promiseDoes this desk make itWhy it reads that way
A line answered at every hour of the nightnot claimedNobody picks up overnight, so the site prints the hours that are actually worked.
A price for your dates, asked for at no costclaimedThe request form works, asking costs nothing and the words free quote are printed beside it.
A blanket promise about chargesnot claimedA promise of that shape needs a running operation behind it. Instead the additions are listed by name.
A promise that nothing is taken up frontnot claimedSame reason. Nothing is taken on this site either way, and no card field exists anywhere on it.
A ride placed on the day you asknot claimedA request that lands inside the desk hours may well be placed the same day, but it is not promised.
A permit or insurance held by this desknot claimedThis desk holds no passenger permit and no vehicle insurance, and no number is invented in its place.
Flexibility past the printed windowsnot claimedThere is a cancellation page with real windows. Flexibility beyond those windows is the operator's to give.
A booking put in writing back to younot claimedA request gets an answer. An answer is not the same thing as a booking set down in writing, so that is not claimed.
Coverage beyond this one regionnot claimedOne operating zone: Baltimore and the counties beside it. Everything else is named as outside.

The only one switched on is the free quote, and the block behind it is the request form itself: asking costs nothing, the words are printed beside the button, and one telephone call follows.

07Limits

What we hold no permit for

Said once more, because it is the thing people assume backwards.

  • No passenger carrier permit of any kind is held by this company.
  • No commercial vehicle insurance is held by this company.
  • No airport ground transportation permit is held by this company.
  • No licence number is printed anywhere on this site, because there is none to print and inventing one would be checkable in about a minute.

The operators hold all of that for the work they do. If you want to know who is running your particular ride, ask on the telephone and you will be told the operator's name.
